In the era of social media, everyone is very quick to use their devices for music, pictures, sharing, and to connect with others in the world. There have been many instances where the use of social media has been questioned by authorities of whether or not its use can hinder or assist in legal efforts.

Social Media has been at the forefront of many issues. As we have seen over several years using cameras on phones and other devices has made the public more aware of what is going on around the world. In cases similar to Eric Garner, because of the use of phones and technology, this has made the public see the arrest what actually was going on. In the Eric Garner case the person who actually recorded the video of the incident was given jail time. Was this necessary? Although you are allowed to purchase a cellphone, many people have gotten in trouble with the law for recording what goes on at these scenes.

In other words, if someone has a video of a fight and refuses to give it up, the person then can be served with a warrant for the contents of that device? When it comes to technology do we really have first amendment rights and has the government taken their power way too far?
